Your nails should be your pride and joy. Strong and beautiful; an expression of your own unique personality and style. You should never need to concern yourself with the quality of products used, nor the safety and health of your nails at any nail salon of your choice.
The Nail Lady Salon uses only the highest quality products approved by the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology. This is always with your safety and well-being in mind and of the utmost concern.
You may ask yourself: “How do those “walk-in” nail salons on most every corner only charge $25-$35 for a full set of acrylic nails, when other salons are charging $50-$60?” Chances are, the reason their acrylic nails are so inexpensive is that they’re using products containing Methyl Methacrylate (MMA). This is a highly toxic chemical used in acrylic nails.
So, what is all this talk about MMA anyhow? MMA is a substance the FDA called “poisonous and deleterious”. It is a colorless liquid with an extreme sharp and unpleasant fruity odor. It is typically used to make resins, plastics, and specifically plastic dentures. In the nail industry this dangerous chemical is found in acrylic liquids (monomers). The FDA has prohibited this chemical from being used on fingernails, and although some states still have Not “banned” this chemical from use in nail salons, Arizona is not one of them. Check out this Video for an eye-opening look at the very real hazards of MMA.
Below are just a few signs and risks of using MMA.
- You may notice a skin allergy or sensitivity after the application of MMA acrylics, as well as permanent loss of sensation in the fingertips.
- MMA can cause the nail plates to deteriorate or crumble, causing damage to the nails and stunt the nail growth, temporarily or permanently.
- Very low pricing for acrylic service (not a special sale or offer).
- Acrylics are extremely difficult to file, even with coarse abrasives.
